The German journalist Barbara Dickenberger came to talk to the man who was born at Ardnagashel West in 1915: Richard Hutchins who lives at Ardnagashel East and still is extremely engaged in looking after his huge heritage. Barbara is preparing a documentary for the German programme ‘Reisewege’ (Saarländischer Rundfunk).
This was Richard’s home for the first six years of his life. During the war of independence he, his two sisters and his mother (Richard’s father died when he was just a few weeks old) had to be evacuated as many Anglo-Irish houses were set on fire. Richard came back to live here at his 90th birthday – he had spent a long working life as an attorney in England. But he spent many a holidays in his native place, in his younger years he even came by bike (yes, from the London area!).
