For those readers from Germany, Switzerland and Austria and also those with a Astra satellite dish: there will be a documentary about the gardens of West Cork in SR (Reisewege) tonight at 8 pm (9 pm German time). Barbara Dickenberger (above with the camera) interviewed the owners of some of the most magnificent gardens in the Glengarriff area, on Sheep’s Head and in Kenmare (Derreen Garden).
Due to the strong winter the Arboretum of Ardnagashel is only just awakening now. Amazing camellias are starting to bloom and so are some exceptional magnolias. The rare Magnolia campbellii ssp. mollicomata is said to be more than 40 years of age. It is a huge tree – you can hardly see the wonderful pinkish flowers.
