the silver fir

Eliane Zimmermann Ardnagashel HouseAbies alba means ‘white fir’, the word abies for fir derives from ‘abire‘: to go far, to leave, to grow tall. This is a unique specimen but it is dying bit by bit. My students love to check the girth, it takes six grown persons to hug the old tree.
